JavaAppletPlugin: Version: Java 8 Update 25 Check version Startup items are obsolete in OS X Yosemite Thanks for the quick reply, here's the report:īluetooth: Old - Handoff/Airdrop2 not supported And I'm running Yosemite 10.10.1.Īny info and or advice would be greatly appreciated! I have 436.91 GB free of 999.35 GB - I installed a 1 TB SATA Disk 2 years ago to replace the original disk which I ran out of space on. I have an iMac (20-inch, Early 2008), yes I know it's old, with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The last time it happened I only had Mac Mail, Safari, iTunes, Messages, and Calculator open. I've scaled back on the number of apps I have open at once. It seemed better for a while but I notice it seems to happen when I'm using Safari now. I uninstalled Firefox because I noticed it usually happened when I was using it. I've also uninstalled Avast (security program) and removed its ad-ons in Safari.
I've repaired disk permissions and reset the PRAM. I've restarted in safe mode many times in hopes it would help. When it first started doing this the screen would go grey (or black or striped), the music would stop or start skipping, and the cursor would not move.Ĭommand + option + escape does nothing.
Lately the screen has been freezing on what I'd been looking at (i.e., a page in Safari), iTunes continues to play whatever music I'm listening to, and I can also still move the cursor around with my mouse. It's been happening for a couple months now and becoming more frequent (it's happened 3 times today). In any case, just want to thank all the people that has posted in regard of this problem and I hope this will put some of you at ease.My iMac keeps freezing and I'm hoping there's some expert advice out there that will help me solve the problem. Reading one of the posts somebody suggested that the life span of an Apple computer is 4-5 years therefore I consider myself lucky for over 7 of great work and perhaps is time to retire it. it has resolved an annoying issue and will allow you to adjust the speed of the fan to keep the HD and video card at a cooler temperature, which also helps limit the locking problem. I too had problems controlling the fans, but with this incredible app. One small application I found extremely useful, is SSD Fan Control.

This iMac has a lot of hours of usage, and considering an upgrade for the video card ATI Rateon 5750 is at this point not the smart move due to the high cost for it (anywhere from $300 to over $500). I am still using the original ATI Rateon 4850 with 512 mg of ram, and for now over 7 years.

The one other issue I have been having is the disappearance of some software at reboot. If I scroll fast there is a good chance it will freeze on me, if I do it slowly, it may not. I installed many small software that helped me get a better idea as to what could be wrong, but none gave me the right answer.Īgain, in my case, it seems that it is also related to the mouse scrolling. I upgraded to a SSD HD and it did not fix the issue. I believe that in MY CASE, it is the video card. Based on countless attempts to fix this I believe I know now the reason of the problem.
